WINNERS OF THE FESTIVAL
BEST ITALIAN SHORT MOVIE AWARD
Habibi
by Davide Del Degan (Italia/Libano 2009)
Motivation:
For the quality of the direction, which could describe a subject endowed with a high dramatic potential in a terse and balanced way, succeeding in depicting a dream of freedom hidden in a marked, although not foregone, destiny.
BEST INTERNATIONAL SHORT MOVIE AWARD
Ich bin's. Helmut
by Nicolas Steiner (Germania - Svizzera 2009)
Motivation:
For its stylistic originality, which puts to use a process of endless dissection of the actors and the viewers physical and mental space.
INTERNATIONAL SHORT MOVIE MENTION
8 et des poussieres
by Laurent Teyssier (Francia 2009)
Motivation:
For the management of the direction, the rhythm and the dramatic pathos, supported with mastery by the actors performance.
BEST SHORT ANIMATION MOVIE AWARD
Giallo a Milano
by Sergio Basso (Italia 2009)
Motivation:
"Giallo a Milano" perfectly illustrates the power of animation as an expressive means capable of modulating itself depending on genre. It deals with a subject usually at risk of trivialization and rhetoric in an admirable way; its animation technique, its direction and its narration make it, on the contrary, a wonderful document, which depicts a cross section of a reality often taken for granted. Furthermore, the movie, always enjoyable, makes use of different techniques with harmony and balance, and is made even more interesting by special stylistic expedients, such as the employment of Ancient Chinese iconography, which accompanies the main character in his new Italian adventure.
SHORT ANIMATION MOVIE MENTION
Mobile
by Verena Fels (Germania 2010)
Motivation:
"Mobile" is characterized by a fluent and dynamic animation, worthy of the best production studies. The characters' personalization and expressiveness make it a funny, at the same time sweet, short movie. The impalpable setting and the diffuse lights certainly stress its fairy-tale nature.
BEST INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY AWARD
Valentina Postika in attesa di partire
by Caterina Carone (Italia 2009)
Motivation:
For the elegant arrangement of the movie, capable of poetically developing the coexistence between an ex-partisan's glorious past and his carer's prospect for an ordinary future.
INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY JURY AWARD
Corde
by Marcello Sannino (Italia 2009)
Motivation:
For its ability to go through the big mysteries of life by means of the story of a boxer of sensitive and kind manners, in a country still capable of withstanding decay.
INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY MENTION
One day after the tenth day
by Narges Abyar (Iran 2008)
Motivation:
For the formal balance with which it succeeds in arousing all the solitudes of the world through the sad parable of an old Iranian camel driver.
INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY MENTION
The death of the gazelle
by Jeremie Reichenbach (Francia 2009)
Motivation:
For the metaphysical rigour with which it initiates the audience to the uncertain reality of a group of armed rebels, succeeding in surprising the spectator in an ending of high symbolic value.
EUGANEAN HILLS AWARD
Gente d'alpe
by Sandro Nardi, Giovanna Poldi Allai, Filippo Lilloni (Italia 2009)
IL FESTIVAL

The IX edition of the Euganea Film Festival will be inaugurated on Thursday 8 July, in the square of the Teatro dei Filodrammatici, and will continue up to Sunday 25. On Friday 9 there will be the great opening with Maco Paolini’s show “Bisogna (La pellagra via sms)” [ndt: “It is necessary (Pellagra via smt)”] on the stage of Este.
This international event is devoted to independent productions and more than a half of the documentaries and short movies taking part in the competition come from abroad. The Festival is dived into the following categories: Italian short movies; foreign short movies; documentaries; animation. There are also two extra sections, which are: Veneto Movie Movement, including works made in Veneto or by Venetian authors; Cinemambulante, devoted to the Italian documentaries dealing with the relationship between the territory and its inhabitants.
Following the route of the Cinemambulante, the Festival will travel across the Euganean Hills, between Este, Monselice and Battaglia Terme; on board of a van equipped for the screening of films, the works selected, coming from all over the world , will be presented in the Euganean towns.
The programme includes sixteen dates and some special events featuring outstanding representatives of the theatrical scene, such as Marco Paolini and Natalino Balasso, as well as important partners like the International School of Comics, the Associazione Veneta Amici della Musica and the group “I Calicanto”. The events will take place in the towns and villas of the Euganean Hills, hidden spots of unexpected beauty which will offer the perfect scenario to make the experience of the screening unforgettable. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 24 July in Monselice, while on Sunday 25 the town will host the final evening, with a show by Natalino Balasso and Mirko Artuso called “Meneghello Reading”, devoted to Luigi Meneghello.
