"Giallo a Milano" perfectly illustrates the power of animation as an expressive means capable of modulating itself depending on genre. It deals with a subject usually at risk of trivialization and rhetoric in an admirable way; its animation technique, its direction and its narration make it, on the contrary, a wonderful document, which depicts a cross section of a reality often taken for granted. Furthermore, the movie, always enjoyable, makes use of different techniques with harmony and balance, and is made even more interesting by special stylistic expedients, such as the employment of Ancient Chinese iconography, which accompanies the main character in his new Italian adventure.

The IX edition of the Euganea Film Festival will be inaugurated on Thursday 8 July, in the square of the Teatro dei Filodrammatici, and will continue up to Sunday 25. On Friday 9 there will be the great opening with Maco Paolini’s show “Bisogna (La pellagra via sms)” [ndt: “It is necessary (Pellagra via smt)”] on the stage of Este.

This international event is devoted to independent productions and more than a half of the documentaries and short movies taking part in the competition come from abroad. The Festival is dived into the following categories: Italian short movies; foreign short movies; documentaries; animation. There are also two extra sections, which are: Veneto Movie Movement, including works made in Veneto or by Venetian authors; Cinemambulante, devoted to the Italian documentaries dealing with the relationship between the territory and its inhabitants.

Following the route of the Cinemambulante, the Festival will travel across the Euganean Hills, between Este, Monselice and Battaglia Terme; on board of a van equipped for the screening of films, the works selected, coming from all over the world , will be presented in the Euganean towns.

The programme includes sixteen dates and some special events featuring outstanding representatives of the theatrical scene, such as Marco Paolini and Natalino Balasso, as well as important partners like the International School of Comics, the Associazione Veneta Amici della Musica and the group “I Calicanto”. The events will take place in the towns and villas of the Euganean Hills, hidden spots of unexpected beauty which will offer the perfect scenario to make the experience of the screening unforgettable. The award ceremony will take place on Saturday 24 July in Monselice, while on Sunday 25 the town will host the final evening, with a show by Natalino Balasso and Mirko Artuso called “Meneghello Reading”, devoted to Luigi Meneghello.
