| Carmo do Rio Verde, in Brazil, is a village that exists thanks to sugar cane exploitation. A company deals there with the complete making of alcohol, owns the fields or rents them, and has 2000 workers, of which 1200 seasonal workers hired by « El gato », « The Cat ». Thanks to his promises – a nice salary and a fine shelter – he gets a 4 % share of everyone’s salary … The work starts, and the exploiting. Between sweat and ashes the film unveils, on a poetical manner, the human price of Brazil’s fortune, its ‘clean’ fuel…
With a Bachelor's degree in Cinema, Jeremy Hamers is now a teaching assistant to the cinema and documentary video service of the University of Liège.
He has just founded, with the cameraman Laurent Van Eijs, the Trikolon Productions company. He received the Kieslowski prize of Best Short Film Scenario for his short film "Outside" in 2003.
"A verdade do Gato (The Cat's Cut)" is his first professional documentary film.
